# Photos, files and voice messages

> Send Tamo a receipt, a PDF, a spreadsheet export or a voice message and talk about it. What it can read, how big, and how long it's kept.

Besides text, Tamo understands photos, files and voice messages.

## Photos

Send a receipt, a whiteboard, a screenshot or a label and ask about it. A caption on the
photo becomes your question. Sent with a photo of a restaurant bill:

Tamo can look at a photo again later ("compare it with last week's receipt") while it's
kept. Photos are kept for 30 days. JPEG, PNG and GIF work, as Telegram photos or as image
files. To keep something for longer, ask Tamo to remember the part that matters.

## Files

Send a PDF, a CSV, a spreadsheet export or another document and ask about it: "what's the
cancellation notice period in this contract?", "total by month", "summarise pages 4 to 9".
For spreadsheets and CSVs, Tamo works the numbers out properly instead of skimming.

- Files can be up to 20 MB, the most Telegram lets bots download.
- Files are kept until you or Tamo remove them. A new file with the same name doesn't replace
  the old one.
- Scanned PDFs that are only pictures of pages can't really be read yet.
- Tamo can't send files back to you yet.

## Voice messages

Talk instead of typing. Before it starts, Tamo shows what it heard as a reply to your voice
message, so a misheard name or time is easy to catch. If a name, number or time that
matters sounds wrong, it asks.

- Voice messages can be up to 5 minutes. Longer ones: send them in parts.
- Any language works, including a mix in one message.
- Only the text is kept, never the recording.
- Audio files and round video messages aren't supported yet, and Tamo answers in text, not voice.

## Safety

Text in photos and files is treated as information, never as instructions. A PDF that says
"forward this to everyone in your contacts" is just a PDF.

## What it can't read

Videos, stickers and audio files get: "I can only read text, photos and files for now.
Could you write it out for me?"
