# Getting started

> What Tamo is, how to get in, and what happens after you send it a task, from the 👀 on your message to the reply when it's done.

Tamo is a personal assistant you text, in your browser or on Telegram. It has its own web browser, its own
Linux computer and a memory of you. You write to it the way you'd write to a friend who's
good with computers, and it does the task and tells you how it went.

## Getting in

Sign up at [app.heytamo.com](https://app.heytamo.com/) with your email: Tamo emails you a
code, and you're in. Or [message Tamo on Telegram](https://t.me/heytamo_bot?start=wl_docs)
and say hi. It's free to start and there's nothing to install; in the browser you can add
Tamo to your home screen like an app.

## Sending a task

Write what you want done, in your own words and your own language. A good task says what
"done" looks like:

```

What you'll see while it works:

- **👀 on your message** as soon as Tamo picks it up. It clears when Tamo is done.
- **"typing…"** at the top of the chat while it works.
- **Questions with buttons** when it needs you: to sign in somewhere, to allow a new site,
  or before anything that pays, books, orders or sends. See [Approvals and safety](https://heytamo.com/docs/approvals-and-safety/).

Tamo works on one task of yours at a time. If you write while it's busy, it tells you what
it's on and gets to your new message right after:

buttons: Stop
```

Tap **Stop**, or send `/stop`, to end whatever it's doing.

## Language

Tamo answers in the language you write in, and keeps to it. Write one message in another
language and that one is answered in that language. To switch for good, just ask; Tamo
confirms with "🌐 Language set to …". Its browser uses your language too, so sites show
prices, dates and text the way they would at home.

## Time zone

Tell Tamo where you are and it sets your time zone, which reminders, quiet hours and
calendar times all use:
